Summer Upper Division

All Upper Division Classes are by Placement only.
June 26 - July 28
Students in the Upper Division are challenged in advanced ballet technique with exercises and combinations that will help develop the necessary strength to perform the many various dances from the classical repertoire as well as more contemporary neo-classical dances. These dancers will begin to demonstrate an understanding of and ability to perform at a more professional level not just technically, but artistically, as well.  Students in these levels show increasing interest and focus as the intensity of training increases.

Students will advance to the next level at the discretion of the  artistic director. Progress is based on the student's technical ability, strength, and effort rather than by age, though we give a suggested age.  A student might spend more than one year in each level.
All levels are by placement.  Continuing students are evaluated each year for placement.  New students may schedule a placement class.

Placement is at the sole discretion of TMB Ballet, and depends on a variety of factors including artistry, technique, attendance, ability to apply corrections, maturity and attitude

REQUIRED: Ballet 4 four times per week
                 Pointe 3/4 twice per week

Students at this level are encouraged to take the Stretch & Strength class.
Ballet 4 students will continue the development of strength, working on advanced technical skills, stamina and virtuosity with increased artistic express. Female students will strengthen their pointe work with more demanding exercises.  Male dancers will work towards more advanced jumping combinations. Training at this level requires more commitment, consistency and dedication to progress and perform. Dancers at this level often join Texas Metropolitan Ballet's performing company, by audition, either as apprentices or members.  Dedicated dancers in Ballet 4 are often rewarded with the opportunity to perform lead roles in the various ballets produced by the company. Upper Division students are encouraged to take the Stretch & Strength class.

REQUIRED: Minimum - Ballet 3 twice per week
Minimum - Ballet 2 once per week
Minimum - Pointe 2 (or 3/4) once per week

Students must receive approval by director to advance to the next level in Pointe

Students at this level are encouraged to take additional Ballet 2 classes if possible as well as the Stretch & Strength class.  If students are given permission to advance to Pointe 3/4 they are encouraged to continue to also keep attending the Pointe 2 class.
Ballet 3a is an important transitional class for those moving from the  Junior Division to the Upper Division.  Maintaining attendance in the Ballet 2 classes assures continued focus on basic technical skills needed to execute the more advanced technique they will be challenged with in the Ballet 3 classes. These students will be increasingly challenged technically and artistically gaining strength, skills, stamina and virtuosity. Female students will demonstrate adequate strength, knowledge, and ability to perform basic pointe work.  Male dancers will be able to demonstrate the beginning levels of men’s technique. It is generally at these levels that students begin to show more commitment, consistency and dedication required to perform classical ballet as they understand the work needed to progress and perform. Dancers at this level are often invited to join Texas Metropolitan Ballet's performing company, by audition, either as apprentices or members.  Upper Division students are encouraged to take the Stretch & Strength class.
