Katarina (Kate) AuBuchon - Instructor
Katarina (Kate) AuBuchon trained from an early age in ballet, jazz, and briefly in tap at the School of Carolina Ballet Theatre (now DanceArts Greenville) under the tutelage of Hernan Justo, Anita Pacylowski-Justo and Adair Keller.
At the age of 14, she was invited to the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) where she received rigorous training in both ballet and modern. Her teachers included Stanislav Issaev, Irina Ushakova, Sandra Neels and Lloyd Whitmore. Ms. AuBuchon spent several summers studying with Orlando Ballet, Joffrey Ballet and Washington Ballet.
Upon graduation, she performed with Carolina Ballet Theater and participated in their assistant teaching program with their academy. Her various repertoire ranges from the corps de ballet in La Sylphide, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, and Paquita as well as several lead roles in Black Swan Pas De Deux, Raymonda Pas De Deux, and multiple roles in Nutcracker including Clara (Marie), Arabian, Snow Queen, and Spanish. Ms. AuBuchon had the opportunity to perform contemporary pieces by prestigious choreographers such as Lester Horton and Merce Cunningham.
After a year with the Louisville Ballet, Ms. AuBuchon decided to pursue a double bachelor’s degree at Furman University in Psychology and Philosophy while continuing to dance with the Carolina Ballet Theater.
She has taught ballet and jazz technique extensively throughout South Carolina at various studios to dancers of all ages, as well as receiving a summer assistant position for two years at SCGSA.
While with the Louisville Ballet, Ms. AuBuchon’s first choreography project, “Cling”, was featured in the Louisville’s Choreographer’s Showcase.
Her Psychology thesis project which studies the effects of summer intensives on dancers’ well-being is currently in the working process before being presented to a peer-review panel for publication. Ms. AuBuchon graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors and received the Marshall Provost Award in Psychology.
Currently living in Fort Hood, Texas with her husband as he serves his country in the Army, Ms. AuBuchon’s passion for dance has become a welcome addition to Texas Metropolitan Ballet.
